Mercedes 280SE-3.5
(1973 European model, body type 108)

History: The car was built in 1972 for a factory official. It was purchased at auction and brought to the U.S. in about 1975. I purchased the car in 1981 after it had been stored for 3 years. My records of oil changes, gas mileage, repairs, and replacements go back to that time. It has not been driven since 1995 when I parked it in my shed.
Overall Appearance: This is a 4-door sedan painted with Mercedes color 834 ( mist green-- a dark green with fine metallic flake). It was re-painted in about 1985 using clear Imron over 834 lacquer. Front fenders were replaced in the 80’s and are free of rust. Rocker panels are rusted and should be replaced. Doors have slight rust spots at bottoms, except for left rear on which panel is rusted free of rear door frame. Right rear fender has rust on rim. Trunk lid has rust on lower lip. I think rust spots are all repairable except for left rear door, which would require either skilled sheet metal work or door replacement. Chrome is all excellent. Interior needs work—dash skin is cracked; drivers seat (cloth), including armrest, is worn.
Mechanical: Suspension is good – I replaced rear shocks and compensator not long before I stopped using the car. Brake cylinders were also done at that time. A factory re-built transmission was installed in about 1987. Tires have about 5000 miles on them. Muffler hangers have, of course, degraded and split since I put the car in my shed – never had those things last more a year or two. The engine is an over square, overhead cam V-8. It runs, but shows signs of oil seepage around valve seals.
General: Car has had several different radios, but I have the original Blaupunkt, if you like old radios. I always enjoyed driving this car and put about 300k km on the odometer – it came with slightly over 100k km. It was meant to be a "retirement project," but I have just been too busy to get to it.
Other Parts: I also have a manual transmission -- gears are good, but it needs retainer rings.
Price and Location: Although this car would have considerable value as a parts machine, I am really interested in finding someone who would appreciate the car, and I would consider any reasonable offer. I need the space. For additional information, contact:
