Dedication

My friend Karl Conrad is an interesting kinda' guy. One of his many assets is his ability to be predictable in the fact that he is unpredictable. He may at any given moment call you up and want to discuss or get your views on a variety of subjects that could range from the real philosophy behind Zen Buddhism to how to fix that little thing- a- kabob under the sink. He has, at various times, involved himself in extensive travel of the North American Continent (which he will participate in, at a moments notice, if he is presented with the slightest indication that perhaps YOU are going somewhere and HE is not), professional printing and graphics, carpentry (built his own home), parenting, auto mechanics, and the purchasing of lottery tickets. He also writes funny / sad / topical songs about life and the effect that it has on many areas of his and the worlds existence and sings them at some pretty strange gigs. He feels that because he has chosen this path at a somewhat later part of his life (hence the "Late Bloomer"), combined with his very strange sense of humor, that he should go to these gigs (assorted bars, biker rallies, V. F. W. halls, college cafeterias, car wash openings, friends' birthday parties, fashion shows and the occasional random rock concert) and sing these songs. Sometimes the essence of what he does on stage gets a little lost because of the bedlam, and sometimes it doesn't. He sings best after midnight and after exactly three Rollin' Rocks around your kitchen table. Well regardless, I thought it was time that he made a CD, so you could listen to it in the privacy of your own home or automobile or wherever and enjoy these tunes as much as I have in the last few years.

1. Coal Tatto

(Billy Edd Wheeler) - Quartet Music Inc. & Bexhill Music ASCAP
I first heard Shawn Phillips do this song in 1970. After much searching I finally located it again this year thanks to Arlo Hennings.

2. Good Morning Girl

(Karl Conrad) - ©1996 Harmless Music
I guess some people aren't meant for each other.

3. Don't Feel Like Crying

    (Karl Conrad) - ©1997 Harmless Music2
Derived from something my father said to me at a very early age. Thanks Dad!

4. Been Down Long Enough

(Karl Conrad) - ©1996 Harmless Music
I wrote this inspired by a friends behavior, with the intent to try to cheer him up and goad him into getting on with it.

5. Tangled Web

(Karl Conrad) - ©1997 Harmless Music Too
I believe this is my first attempt at songwriting. Probably written in 1986 as far as I can remember.

6. Pilot Light

(John Gorka) - Blues Palace Music ASCAP
I've had the good fortune to roadie for my pal Jaime and on occasion his friend John Gorka. I learned this song at these festivals and had the pleasure of playing it for Mr. Gorka and other distinguished artists and friends by an early morning campfire at "Magicland". I love this song.

7. Catch the Wind

(Donovan Lietch) - Donovan (Music) Ltd. ASCAP
In my opinion, this is one of the finest love songs ever written.

8. Dog House Blues

(Karl Conrad) - ©1997 Harmless Music Too
This song is proof that things are not always what they seem. I wrote the chorus of this song while building an elaborate doghouse with paneling and a deck for my beloved and aged friend "Bear".

9. Glass Bar

(Karl Conrad) - ©1996 Harmless Music
About and for my best friend, my wife Dianna.

10. Max the Dog

(Karl Conrad) - ©1997 Dogs Do Music
For my friend Beav. A celebration of great times with great friends (and Max).

11. Motherless Child

    (Traditional)
I learned this in the 60's. My friend Harmony suggested it to me recently. It's always been a favorite.

12. King of Beers

(Mark Sandman) - Dogs and Trains Music BMI
One of my favorite songs recorded with permission from my friend I have never met, Mark Sandman. Thanks Mr. Sandman!

13. Dark Out (Tonight)

(Karl Conrad) - ©1996 Harmless Music
    One day at a time.
