OBJECTIVES:
ACCOMPLISHMENT OF OBJECTIVES THROUGH THE SHELTER PROGRAM:The shelter program enlists the aid of many dedicated men and women each month to serve as volunteer Innkeepers. They come to the shelter to supervise the homeless residents and oversee the shelter operation for the night. There is a bed and an office area with built-in comforts for these Innkeepers. The Foundation Shelters provide an opportunity for caring members of this community to express their concern for the homeless in a real and meaningful way. These Innkeepers also become a part of the broadcast system which informs the local area of the presence of homelessness in our affluent community. All of the operating funds for the shelter program are derived locally from the generosity of churches, individuals, and businesses. The Shelter is incorporated and is 501(c)(3) tax exempt. The shelter program is completely separate from the dinner program. The shelter program is operated by a board of directors. The Fairfield County community has been very generous in its support of this shelter program. The Foundation Shelters are continually working to gain the interest of even more community volunteers to support the shelter for men, women and children. Call, write or email us if you have a burden for this sort of work.
ACCOMPLISHMENT OF OBJECTIVES THROUGH THE DINNER PROGRAM:The dinner program enlists the aid of over 200 volunteers each month. These volunteers come from many Lancaster and Fairfield County churches, organizations, businesses and industries (see the personnel page). The Foundation Dinners provides an opportunity for these volunteers to contribute to the needs of many poverty-stricken families and individuals. These volunteers also become part of the broadcast system which informs the local area of the presence of homelessness in our affluent community. All of the operating funds for the dinner program are derived locally from the generous contributions of churches, individuals, businesses and The United Way. Unlike The Foundation Shelters, there are three part-time employees who manage the kitchen operation. The intensity of this job is such that it cannot be conveniently accomplished by a volunteer. A part-time employee works 3.5 hours each day. All other workers at The Foundation Dinners are volunteers. The food is donated to us on a regular basis by The Fairfield Medical Center, Kroger, The Mid-Ohio Foodbank, The Spaghetti Shop and The White Cottage Restaurant. Many individuals and restaurants are other sources that donate on a non-regular basis. The operating expenses include all of the occupancy costs, miscellaneous kitchen supplies, maintenance, kitchen tools, and part-time employee wages. Interested, responsible, compassionate and caring men, women and children donate their time. Some volunteer once a month and some twice or more, filling our calendar each and every month. They serve as cooks, dish washers, servers and janitors. They manage the serving of a dinner every day of the year at 5:00 P.M. They are reaching out to touch those who many consider to be untouchable. The basic financial needs of these disadvantaged families and individuals are being relieved as many caring people come to serve these meals. The program continually seeks the interest of even more local volunteers to help in the kitchen of The Foundation Dinners.
A CLOSING WORD:Finally, the mission of both the dinners and shelters is dedicated to responding to the Gospel of Jesus Christ. He calls upon each follower to respond to the needs of the downcast with a merciful heart, supplying not only words, but also and most importantly, deeds. The Foundation Shelters/Dinners is not specifically affiliated with any church or denomination. Most every Christian denomination in the local community represents its concern through some type of assistance to these two programs.Any Christian Church, any individual, any business or industry that believes in expressing compassion to the victims of poverty and neglect, are invited to join in this effort to relieve human suffering. If you would like to help, reach us by phone, mail or email (see the home page).
