from NY to 2nd River, NJ
Ancestor of the NJ Pier family who came from New Amsterdam, NY to Bergen New Jersey in 1684. He later moved to Belleville, NJ where he purchased considerable land. Tunis can be found in the records under Pier, Peer, Aspeere, Spier, Speer and Johnson (anglized version of Jansen) also Teunis Johnson alias Piere. Teunis' bp record in NY. Lib. B, p. 119 New Jersey Wills. In his will dated 1727 and probated April 1729, he leaves bequests to his wife, Catrina and 4 sons and 2 daughters. Johanes, Thomas, Abraham, Jacob, Rachel and Janitee. Executors were his sons, Johanus and Abraham. He lived in Newark, Essex Co, NJ. Witnesses were Jno. Cooper, Gerret Wouterse, Matheus Van Deusen. It is from these four sons that the NJ Pier and Peer families came. Daughter Rachel Teunissen Pier m. Hendrick Hanse Spier, son of Hans Spier. NJA 21:307 Hans Spier s/o Hendrick janszen Spier and Helena Hans owned 2 acres of boggy meadow adjacent to property owned by Tunis Jansen Pier. This was in NJ near Newark.
