Perhaps we (even) should be more than a little concerned when we
quote the Scripture.  Even the casual Bible student has probably read
the story about Jepthah and his oath and how the Lord apparently let
circumstances prevail and after Jepthah had promised to
sacrifice (to God) the first thing that came out of his house
-- and out came his virgin daughter!

There are even more specific examples of the "dangers" of quoting or
referencing our comments to this axiom, "Thus saith the Lord...". What
of those times when we are trying to PROVE A POINT?  We are pretty
handy at using the Bible to back up our arguments and sadly, just as handy
at IGNORING the Bible when our arguments are about as water-worthy as
a sieve!  What is the message or point?  Simple, I think; BE CAREFUL
what we try to get the Scripture to approve or disapprove and let's
REALLY MEAN IT when we quote it!

OTHERWISE, we might be just as the "word picture" is above--
going in circles, round and round, never really sure we
are going or where we have been and perhaps even bending
the Scripture to fit our whims and fancies.
