Installing the Accelerator

The minimum system requirements are a PowerPC G3 processor at 333MHz with 128MB RAM and 6MB of hard drive space. The client application works with OS X 10.2 or later and Safari 1.0 or later.

1. Call Green Apple and let us know that you will be using Accelerated Dialup.
2. Download the SlipStream Accelerator client installer for Macintosh.
3. The disk image should automatically decompress and mount.
4. Click on "Accelerator.pkg" in the installer volume.
5. The installer will guide you through the installation process.
6. When finished, you will be prompted for your Green Apple username and password. Enter them. Put a checkmark beside "Save Password".
7. After launching the Accelerator, the SlipStream icon will appear in the dock:

8. Browse the web or download email as you normally would. Your web or email activity is automatically accelerated.

Launching the Accelerator

The SlipStream Accelerator launches automatically each time you start. If the Accelerator is not running and you need to launch it manually, locate the Accelerator icon in the Applications folder and double-click it. The SlipStream icon will appear in the dock:

Setting Username and Password

Your username and password is located in the Connection Status dialog. To set your username and password,

1. Click on the SlipStream Accelerator dock icon.
2. Click on the "Connection" tab.
3. Enter your Green Apple username and password. Put a checkmark beside "Save Password".
4. Hit "Apply".

Image Quality Setting

The image quality setting determines the quality of images which are shown when accelerating. The higher the quality, the longer it takes to load; the lower the quality, the shorter it takes. Slower connections can improve performance by using a lower image quality. To set the image quality,

1. Click on the SlipStream Accelerator dock icon.
2. Select the "Image Quality" tab.
3. Adjust quality by moving slider.
4. Press the slider bar to adjust the image quality setting.

Starting and Stopping

The SlipStream Accelerator starts automatically, but occasionally you may need to stop or start manually. To stop, exit any open web browser, and click on the SlipStream Accelerator dock icon. Select the menu item "Stop SlipStream Web Accelerator" from the application menu-bar. To start, exit any open web browser, and click on the SlipStream Accelerator dock icon. Select the menu item "Start SlipStream Web Accelerator" from the application menu-bar. Please note, the Accelerator does not actually start until the web browser first connects to a website when it provides the given username and password to the accelerator server for authentication.

Advanced Connection Settings

Normally, the advanced connection settings do not need changed. To view or set them

1. Click on the SlipStream Web Accelerator dock icon.
2. Click on the "Connection" tab.
3. Hit "Advanced" button.
4. Use the following settings:
        Remote Server Hostname: sp.greenapple.com
        Server Port: 7000
        Local Listening Port: 5400
5. Hit "OK". Hit "Apply".

The changes take effect once the SlipStream Accelerator has been restarted (ie. stopped, then started).

Version Information

1. Click on the SlipStream Web Accelerator dock icon.
2. Select "About SlipStream Web Accelerator" from the application menu-bar.

Uninstalling the Accelerator

1. Quit the SlipStream Web Accelerator.
2. Launch the finder and browse to the /Applications folder.
3. Drag the accelerator icon to the trash can.
4. Call Green Apple and let us know that you will not be using Accelerated Dialup.
