Launched in 1987 or 1988, the Make Money Fast message - sometimes distributed on electronic bulletin boards (BBSes) as a file named fastcash.txt - is an electronic version of a chain letter pyramid scheme. You are promised tens of thousands of dollars provided you send money (typically a dollar or two) to the five to ten people on the list. You are instructed then to add your name to the top of the list, remove the bottom name, and repost/forward the chain letter, which incidentally is federal wire fraud.
