There are a variety of different attachment files you could receive. Check with McAfee's and Norton's site for full information. BugBear is an internet worm capable of spreading through the local network under Windows 32-bit systems. There are many different variations of this virus which have each derived from the original. It uses an exploit (a security hole) that allows the attachment to be executed when viewing the message with Microsoft Outlook Express or Outlook (without Service Packs installed). This method is similar to the one used by the Klez worm. It is recommended that if you are not up to date on your virus protection or currently have protection that you go and purchase a program. Also, having a fully patched and up to date version of your internet software will diminish the chances of the virus from taking hold and using known vulnerabilities in the Windows operating system and Microsoft's internet software. Keep up to date via Microsoft's WindowsUpdate site. MacOS, Linux and alternate OS users are not affected by this virus as usual. For more information, check out the links to McAfee and Norton. |
