BackOrifice (like its partner, NetBus) is a piece of software which a hacker will use to wrest control of your computer. For the hacker to do this, however, you must first install the program on your PC. As a person would generally not want a hacker to take over their computer, the installation of BackOrifice is usually hidden within the installation process of another program -- making BackOrifice an example of a 'Trojan Horse'-type virus. Most up-to-date virus detection utilities will spot BackOrifice, but the best solution is not to install programs you are not fully confident in.
