It is assumed that the installation file has already been downloaded. To begin the setup process, double click on the file you downloaded.

Existing users with an Yahoo! account can use this program without setting up a new username/password.

Setup

1. Welcome screen will be brought up. Hit Next to continue
2. You will be presented by the License Agreement. Read through this and Hit 'I Accept' if you agree or 'Cancel' if you disagree. Hitting 'Cancel' will halt the installation. By hitting 'I Accept' you will proceed.
3. Choose the installation directory or just use the default and by hitting next. Hit Next
4. You will be asked to install Yahoo! Companion. You can choose to either download and install this or to skip it. If you do now wish to run this program, uncheck the box for Yahoo! Companion and hit 'Next'
5. You will be asked whether you want Yahoo! IM to start when the computer starts. If you do not want it to, uncheck the box and hit next. Leaving it checked will have it start when windows boots.
6. The program files will decompress and install and when finished, you will get a screen notifying you of the completion. Hit 'Finish' to continue. YIM will now start up.

If you already have an YIM account or an Yahoo! screen name and password, you can enter it here and connect right away. New users will need to hit the 'Get a Yahoo! id' Button.

New Yahoo! Account:

1. On the next screen, you will be asked to signup a new YIM account or to use an existing Yahoo! account. Choose 'Get a Yahoo! ID'. Fill out the information and you will be assigned your account. Once completed, your information will be filled in and you can can connect.

The first time you use YIM, you will need to click on the Add+ button along the top toolbar Here you can find people to add to your list and setup your profile.

Using Yahoo! IM

The YIM Screen is setup so that your contacts will be listed in the middle of the screen. Your contacts are those who are listed and you can interact with them. One of the best features is that YIM will tell you when a person is currently online. When someone is online, you can send them messages, chat with them, send them files, or play online games with them.

Your contact list is split into two sections. On the top half of the screen, users who are online will be displayed. The bottom half shows those who are not online. In order to perform an action, you must RIGHT click on the users name and a menu will be displayed. From this menu, you can choose your action.

The easiest way to send a message is to double left click on a contact and the new message screen will come up. Type in a message and click send and off it goes.

Right Click Main Menu

When you click on a user, this menu will be displayed. To perform many of these actions, the other user must be online. You can tell if the other person is online by the icon next to their name.
