| This guide describes how to
configure the Sega Dreamcast for Internet connectivity. The following assumes
that the Dreamcast has successfully been connected to and tested on a TV. Make
sure that a phone line is connected into the Dreamcast. You will need to have
the Dreamcast Browser CD in the drive in order to proceed. Plug in your
keyboard, if available, or use your controller to enter the information with
the onscreen keyboard.
In the Dreamcast manual, there is a place in
which you can write down all the settings which will be needed. You may want
to copy the information from this sheet to the book for future reference.
Configuring the Dreamcast for Internet
Connectivity
Step 1: Starting.
When asked if you wish to use AT&T, move your
cursor and select 'Use your own ISP'.
The screen should change to an option menu with
the options to change your internet connection, email account, or display
settings. If this menu does not appear, hit your START button on the
controller and a group of icons should appear. Move your cursor to options and
select it with your A button. The menu discussed beforehand should appear.
Move your cursor to 'Internet Connection' and click on it with your A button.
Step 2: Setting up your internet connection.
The first screen to appear will be 'Basic Info'
- Enter the following information in the
corresponding fields.
- Real Name: Your real name or a nickname if
you wish.
- User Login: <login>
- Password: <password>

Depending on your location, use one of the following dial-in numbers:
Lancaster: 654-2133 (and surrounding areas)
Columbus: 834-5124
- Backup Number: Leave Blank as it is not
needed
- DNS1: 192.168.187.6
- DNS2: 192.168.187.5
- Move your cursor to 'Dial Options' and click
on it with the A button. Fill out or change the following information.
- Area code you are dialing from: Your area
code
- Long distance call prefix: Enter 1 if
calling long distance
- Call waiting prefix: Enter your call waiting
prefix.
Note: Most phone companies use '*70,' . If you are not certain
what your company uses, check your phone book. Not needed if you don't have
call waiting.
- Outside dial prefix: Enter the number used
to dial to an outside line if necessary.
- Dial: Select 'TONE' or 'PULSE", depending on
your current phone system.
- Dial area code: Keep 'OFF' unless you are
calling long distance.
- Blind dial: Keep 'OFF' unless you have call
waiting, in which then you will need to enable this in order to be able to
dial out.
- This next menu is optional. To proceed
without setting up a proxy server, move your cursor to the 'OK' button and
click on it with your A button. If you want to use the proxy server, enter
the following information.
- Use Proxy: 'YES' or 'NO'. Click yes in order
to use it
- Proxy server name: proxy.greenapple.com
- Proxy port: 3128
- Once the information is entered, move your
cursor to the 'OK' button and click on it with your A button.
Back at the 'Required Settings' menu, click on
the 'SAVE' button to save your information the Dreamcast's memory.
Step 3: Setting up your email settings.
- Move your cursor to the 'Email Account'
button and click on it with your A button. This will bring up the settings
screen where you can enter the following information.
- Email Login: <login>
- Email Password: <password>
- Email Address: <your login>@greenapple.com
- Incoming Server (POP3): mail.greenapple.com
- Outgoing Server (SMTP): mail.greenapple.com
- The following are optional:
- [ ] Show mail header when getting mail.
Shows detailed information on the email message
- [ ] Include original message in replies.
Quotes the original message in a reply. Recommended.
Once the information is entered, move your
cursor to the 'OK' button and click on it with your A button.
Back at the 'Required Settings' menu, click on
the 'SAVE' button to save your information the Dreamcast's memory.
Using the Internet
Once the settings are saved, you can return to
the main menu and select 'Enter' to bring up a web browser or 'Email' to bring
up the email program. Both of these programs are fully featured and allow you
to use the many features of the internet.
If you are not already connected, clicking
these buttons will cause the Dreamcast to dial out with the modem. Once
connected, you can use either program. To end your internet session, click on
the '>><-' button to disconnect the modem or simply turn off the Dreamcast
system.
