This guide describes how to configure the New Connection Wizard, NCW, which comes with the Internet Explorer version 6.x. Internet Explorer v6.x is pre-installed in Windows XP. It may be installed manually with Windows 98 and above  NCW is an automated process which leads a user through creating a Dialup Connection. This guide was written with reference to an XP Professional system. Other XP versions should be similar, if not identical.

Configuring the New Connection Wizard v6.x

Start up 'New Connection Wizard'

  1. The New Connection Wizard is started one of two ways:
    1. If you have an icon on the desktop which reads 'Connect to the Internet' or 'New Connection Wizard', double click on it.

Logging onto Green Apple

Double-click on the Green Apple icon on your desktop. Hit 'Dial'. This will dialup to Green Apple.

Once the modems connect, the message 'Verifying user name and password' will appear. If everything has been setup correctly and your login name and password have been entered correctly, the dial window will minimize and an icon will appear on the start bar near the clock. Your connection to the Internet is up and working! You may now start one of your Internet applications such as Netscape Navigator or the Microsoft Internet Explorer.

Your Internet connection is monitored via the status window, which you'll find in the lower right hand corner of your screen near the clock. Double clicking the status icon (two computers with green monitors) brings up your connection window with information regarding your connection speed, connection duration, and an option to disconnect. You can hide this window (return it to the system tray) by clicking it's minimize button.

When you are finished with your Internet session, close all your Internet applications, bring back the status window and hit the 'Disconnect' button.
