| Unlike previous versions of Mac
OS, System 8.0 includes as part of the cd-rom distribution the software needed
to use the Internet. It includes a dialer to connect, Netscape Navigator,
Claris emailer and other Internet utilities. This write-up describes how to configure the Internet Dialer software
that is included in System 8.0. It assumes that Mac OS 8.0 has been installed
correctly and is running properly. Documents on other Internet applications
included with System 8.0 are available from Green Apple's support library,
www.greenapple.com/support/library/.
Configuring
- The Internet software on a generic
installation of System 8.0 is put into a folder called 'Internet' on the Hard
Drive. Open that folder.
- Double click on 'Internet Setup Assistant'.
- Click 'Update'.
- Read Introduction window and hit '>>'.
- Select 'Add Internet configuration' and hit
'>>'.
- Under 'What would your like to name this
configuration', enter [Green Apple]. For 'How will you be connecting to the
Internet' select 'Modem'. Hit '>>'.
- In 'Modem Settings' window, select the
appropriate modem and port. Select 'Tone' or 'Pulse' dialing as appropriate.
Hit '>>'.
- In 'Configuration information' window, enter
the phone number (see below), your login and your password (remember, login
and password are case sensitive).
Depending on your location, use one of the following dial-in numbers:
Lancaster: 654-2133 (and surrounding areas)
Columbus: 834-5124
If you have call-waiting, add '*70,' as prefix
(e.g., *70,654-2133).
Hit '>>'
- In 'IP Address' window, for 'Is there an IP
address for this configuration?', select 'No'.
- Hit '>>'.
- In 'Domain Name Servers' window, enter
DNS addresses
192.168.187.6
192.168.187.5
Domain Name
greenapple.com

In 'Conclusion' window, remove, check from
'Connect when finished' and hit 'Go Ahead'. The system will pause a moment
while it updates some system files. Dialer setup is complete when this process
ends. You are ready to connect to the Internet.
Connecting
To connect, go to the 'Internet' folder on the
desktop and double click on 'Internet Dialer' icon. Hit 'Connect' button. At
this point your modem should initialize, dial-out and send your login and
password information. If everything is correct, the connection will come up
and you are ready to use an Internet application such as Netscape.
When you are done with your Internet sessions,
close all your Internet applications that might be running, return to the
Internet Dialer window and hit the 'Disconnect' button.
