| FrontPage is Microsoft's
professional web page creation utility that is part of the Office family of
products. This program can be used to create, upload and manage your website.
FrontPage is useful since it works much like a word processor and is easy to
use for even a novice user. This program offers a variety of ways to get
started with a new page or to enhance an existing one.
Using FrontPage with Green Apple There are two types of users who use FrontPage on Green Apple. Those with web domains and those with standard accounts. All domains that are hosted on Green Apple automatically have FrontPage server support built in unless the customer specifically chooses not to. This allows the domain holder easy access to their site and its content. Standard dialup users do not currently have access the FrontPage server support, so they will not be able to connect directly to their site to access or modify their page. Standard dialup users may still use FrontPage to create and modify their sites on their own machines, but will not be able to connect and access the files using FrontPage's remote editing functions. In order to transfer these files, dialup users will need to use a independent FTP program. Domain Users Customers with web domains can connect to their sites quite easily with FrontPage 2000. In order to connect, you will first need to click on the File menu and then Open Web. In the Folder Name box type in your full domain, such as: http://www.myname.com and then his the Open button. If you typed your name correctly, you should be presented with a username and password prompt. Type in the username and password used in conjunction with your website. You can check the save password box if you like. Hit Ok. If everything goes well, you should then be presented with a listing of the directories and pages on your website and you can begin to create or edit your documents. On the left hand side of the screen you should be presented with a Folder List. You can select files to edit from this window. To open a file for editing, double click on the file in this widow. Once finished with the file, you can save it via the save button at the top of the screen or through the pull down menu. There is no need for uploading the file as you are editing the remote file directly. Once finished, you can close your web session by going to File > Close web. This will close down your FrontPage connection to the remote host. Standard Dialup Users To use FrontPage locally, click on File > New > Page from the pull down menu list at the top of the program and you will be presented with a blank page. If you wish to edit an existing file, click on File > Open and select the file. On the left hand side of the screen you should
be presented with a Folder List. You can select page(s) to edit from this
window. To open a file for editing, double click on the file in this widow.
Once finished with a page, you can save it via the save button at the top of
the screen or through the pull down menu. |
