Microsoft Internet Explorer TCP/IP Stack and Dialer

Internet Explorer V3.x as distributed in the file 'dlbas30f.exe' contains a freeware protocol stack and dialer from Microsoft (in addition to including the application 'The Internet Explorer')

The following write-up describes how to install and configure the file 'dlbas30f.exe' for Windows. It assumes this file exists on a diskette prior to installation process.

Installing dlbas30f.exe

  1. The file, 'dlbas30f.exe', is a self-extracting archive containing V3.x of IE and the IE dialer and stack. Move this file to some temporary directory.
  2. Run the file "dlbas30f.exe" to extract the needed files.
  3. From Windows, run the file "setup.exe" that was created.
  4. Follow the steps to install the "Microsoft Internet Explorer" program group in windows.
  5. Near the end of the installation process, the installer program will try to detect the modem. If no modem is found, try using a 'Standard' modem.
  6. You should have an "Internet Explorer", "Read Me", and "Get on the Internet" icons.
  7. Re-boot machine.

Configuring the TCP/IP stack and dialer

  1. From the "Microsoft Internet Explorer" group, double-click on the "Get on the Internet" icon.
