| CuteFTP is an FTP (File Transfer
Protocol) application written for Windows 95/98 platforms. The following
write-up assumes that the application has been installed successfully. Configuring CuteFTP v1.80 The main display of CuteFTP is divided into two windows. The first window is the actual window you will view when using CuteFTP; the second window is called the FTP manager. The FTP Manager is an area where you can create 'user profiles' for yourself to access your FTP site. To add a user profile,
After adding the folder, click on the 'Add Site' button. This will let you add your FTP site into the list of sites you can access. When you click the 'Add Site' button a new window will appear. Enter
You will then be returned to the main CuteFTP window with the FTP Manager box on top. Using CuteFTP To Transfer HTML Files In the FTP Manager window there is a button called 'Connect'. To connect an FTP site, press it. Now you have setup all the information needed in CuteFTP. The next time you open it, the FTP Manager will again appear. On the right-hand side of the screen will be listed the name of your site. Click it once and then click the Connect button. After you are logged on to Green Apple, a gray message box will pop up showing 3-4 lines of text. You can read the information if you want, but it holds no great importance. Just click the 'OK' button. From there you can upload, download, edit, view, and a whole lot more. If you are moving over HTML files, you need to switch to the directory 'public_html'. To do this, check that the directory on the right-hand side of the screen says 'public_html'. Double click on that folder. This changes you to that directory. To upload your file or files, you will first need to have the left-hand side of the CuteFTP screen showing the directory that the file is stored in on your hard drive. After you have the window showing the file that you wish to transfer over to your Green Apple account, you just click it on once with the right mouse button and the select 'Upload' from the list. On the top frame of CuteFTP, text will start showing up saying things like 'opening binary connection to:' and 'uploading file...'. These indicate that your files are uploading. To download a file from your account, simply right click on the file and select 'Download' from the menu. Downloading will place the selected file onto your hard drive. To exit from CuteFTP, select File >> Quit or select Ctrl + or just click the close button on the top of the window (marked 'X') For help on CuteFTP, select 'Contents' from the Help Menu. |
