Using Internet Explorer
The Internet Explorer display is divided into
five regions. From top to bottom they are: a row of pull-down menus, the
toolbar, the Address line, the html viewer, and the Status Bar.
To go to a known site, enter the address on
Address line. Most web addresses have an implied http:// as a prefix (e.g.,
http://www.yahoo.com); this may be omitted though (www.yahoo.com). Images and
text which are highlighted or underscored are links to other websites (these
links are called hyperlinks). To move through a hyperlink, you click on the
image or text. If you click on the word Address on the Address line, it will
toggle between an entry field and a list of buttons that link to homepages on
Microsoft's system
When Internet Explorer is downloading (i.e.
retrieving a homepage or a file), a comet will fly around the letter 'e'
located in upper right corner. Also the Status Bar at bottom will indicate
percentage of downloading that is complete. The Status Bar may be hidden by
removing checkmark at View >> Status Bar.
The toolbar is the strip of buttons starting on
left with a 'Back' arrow and ending on right with a 'Mail' button. All the
buttons on toolbar have an equivalent in a pull-down menu. To hide the
toolbar, remove checkmark from View >> Toolbar.
