Green Apple News: Windows DirectX Security Flaw

Microsoft has issued notice of a flaw found in the Windows operating system. The flaw has the potential to severely compromise a computer running Windows; Microsoft has given the flaw a Severity Rating of Critical. It is associated with DirectX, the Windows library which performs multimedia handling, and could be exploited by carefully crafted buffer overruns. Microsoft has a fix available through Windows Update. They recommend all users of Windows 98, Me, NT, 2000, XP and 2003 Server operating system visit Windows Update and install the fix.

Windows Update, the facility through which the fix is distributed, is widely used by Microsoft to distribute updates to Windows users. For good Windows maintenance, users should become familiar with Windows Update and run it at a regular intervals.
