| Green Apple News: Fighting SPAM | |||||
| March 8, 2002 Face it. If you have email, you have SPAM. You as a customer of Greenapple can do a few steps to greatly reduce the flood of junk mail in your inbox. First off, you should forward your SPAM to spamcop@greenapple.com. Once we receive the email, we can then add the sender of the SPAM to our real time blackhole list. This list then acts as a filter on our mail server to block the sender from future SPAM to greenapple recipients. Not all users mail is being filtered. We can only add you to this filter by special request. To do this, you must call us at Greenapple and provide us with the email accounts you would like to be filtered. About 70-80% of actual SPAM is blocked but there is also a risk of legitimate mail not getting through. If you are experiencing troubles with a specific sender that you would like to receive mail from but don't seem to get it, please call us with the block senders email and we will then be able to fix your problem. Outlook Express users can also block unwanted mail. Outlook has two built in tools to filter your mail before it reaches your inbox. The first tool is the Block Senders List. This is list of senders that works just like our system but has your own personal block list. If you receive a message that is unwanted, just left click to highlight the message then click Message > Block Sender > Yes > OK. From now on, the senders email is blocked and sent straight to the delete items. The second tool is to create message rules. This is a way to block mail that has unwanted key terms in the subject line (adv:, FREE!, WIN NOW!, YOU JUST WON!, ect.). To create a message rule, click Message > Create Rule From Message... From here there are many different ways to filter the incoming mail. For additional assistance, please call tech-support at 653-9890 during normal business hours. |
