Enrichment and Enlightenment (E2)
UPDATE MAY 2008
To: All parents of St. Marys students:
As we
prepare for the 2008 -09 school year, we would love your input
and ideas about what Home and School (E2) is helping with for
our students for Enrichment and Enlightenment. In summary, we
have a budget of approximately $12,500 (funded from Market Day
proceeds and some SCRIP proceeds) that is covering:
Classroom
Fieldtrip reimbursement:
- teacher requests
Spanish
Enrichment Program:
This covers Rosetta Stone, a computer based language program,
and a cultural program for 2nd – 6th
graders; and Spanish I, taught by Jennifer Spiegel from Fisher
Catholic, for high school credit, to 7th and 8th
graders, or students who test into the program.
Interested current 6th graders, who would like to
join, please contact Jane Dodds at 654-6882 ASAP because the
program begins with a summer session June 3 – 6, 2008.
Art
Enrichment:
approximately $1500 per session for K – 8, Art and Clay
instructs in the Spirit Center. We are in need of a
coordinator for Art.
Science:
In the past, COSI on Wheels, $1000, and Mad Science after school
that parents funded. We are in need of a coordinator for
Science.
Math:
Mrs. Cummins is going to head up a Math Counts program beginning
next school year for 6th – 8th graders
chosen by their teachers and we are looking into Accelerated
Math for K – 8 (just like Accelerated Reader).
Great Books:
2nd – 5th graders are chosen by their
teachers to meet once per week with a parent volunteer for 30
minutes during the school day for 2, 10-week sessions, totaling
20 weeks.
If you have
any additional specific suggestions regarding other
Enrichment ideas, or areas of concern, that would be
wonderful! Please put any information in the E2 mailbox
in the office. Also, we are very much in need of additional
volunteers, if you have ideas and can help, please let us
know!! Call Tammy Thomas at 746-5752 or Kelly Virgin at
569-7235 with any questions, ideas, etc.
