Dear Parents:  Since we have exceeded our calamity days allowed by the state by one day, we will need to make up that day.  The make up day will be Thursday, March 20th.  Although this is Holy Thursday, the sacred Triduum---the three sacred days of Holy Thursday, Good Friday and Easter Vigil--does not begin until sundown on Holy Thursday.  Therefore, there should be no conflict with parish celebrations on that day that commemorates the Lord's Last Supper since only one Mass may be celebrated until after sundown.  Our spring breakwill begin on Good Friday, March 21st.  Sincerely, Carlton Rider

INVENTION CONVENTION INFORMATION
Dear parents/Guardians of St. Mary students,
Our students have a chance once again to participate in the  Invention Convention sponsored by Just Think,  Inc.  Participation is on a voluntary basis.  Packets are available in the library, and are available to be distributed to interested students.
Here is how the Invention Convention works:
Students come up with a new idea that solves a problem and create a model based on that idea.  The steps of arriving at that idea and creating a model based on that idea are written in a journal provided by the Invention Convention (IC) organization.  Projects are brought to school on Monday, April 7th, so that they may be judged at the school that week.  The two or three top projects then compete at a regional level at Veteran's Memorial in Columbus on Saturday, May 17th.  (Parents/guardians and students must be present.)  Three monetary awards and many other prizes are given at each grade level.  In the past, two Saint Mary students won awards, one winning 3rd place in the fifth grade category ($300 Ohio Tuition Grant) and one winning a scholarship to the Invention Convention Camp.

Students may be able to see a video and receive instruction on researching inventions in the school library.  Mrs. Lindsey and I have a list of projects so that no two students work on the same idea.  Because of significant problems in past years, students may not work with a partner.   Many books will be placed on reserve in the school library to help with the research.  If there are any questions, you may contact me by e-mail or by phone.    diane@alternacare.biz or 740-653-2046.
The registration DEADLINE is Monday March 10th.  If interested in more details:  http://www.just-think-inc.com/
